American Idol, Cupcakes and Health...sort of

Idol:
So another season is over. I have to admit the finale was more fun than it normally is. And I have a newfound love for Burt Bacharach (make all the fun you want). I do have to comment on a few things though:
a) Although I can't stand the 4 commercial break dragouts till the winner is announced this year I felt they left not enough time for Taylor to really say anything.
b) I am glad Chris did not win.
c) Katherine would have had a far better shot at winning if she had not done so many Mariah Carey-esque runs. She has a beautiful simple voice. She over did it.
d) I like Taylor in his audition and he grew on me the whole show.
e) I still love Clay Aiken
f) Meatloaf's performances was without a doubt one of the worst performances by such a big artist that I have ever seen. I mean it even topped Britney Spears for bad. So bad. Shockingly so. I'm still a bit stunned.
g) Simon is still smart.

That is my Idol rantings.

Now for cupcakes:
We found the coolest store in Dundas. It's right beside Walkers Chocolate (by the Pita Pit where Erin works!) and all they sell is Cupcakes. It's called, funnily enough, Cupcakes. It's at 1050 King St W and they are open Monday - Saturday I think 12 - 8ish. They sell for $2.50/piece or $13/6, $24/dozen. Now that is a lot to pay for cupcakes but they are good cupcakes. They even had a Pupcake which was mostly peanut butter for dogs! Chewie loved it. So if you are looking for a perfectly unhealthy meal, hit Walkers Chocolate for an appetizer, walk next door to Cupcakes for your dessert, across the road to Pita Pit for a semi healthy main course, and across the road again to TCBY for a frozen yogurt pallet cleanser!

Health, or lack thereof:
I still can't talk. The ENT specialist can't see me till August 4th. I am stressed about surgery and about this and I am getting exceedingly frustrated playing charades. I love him to death but Rich is one of the worst at reading lips and charades. My preop was over 2 hours. My doc's appt after that was over 1 hr and 15 minutes late. So I was 1.5 hours late for work. I'm a bit annoyed at the medical people in general right now. Except paramedics of course.

I think I will watch So You Think You Can Dance tonight. Idol is where I can critically analyze and get into it cause I actually know what is good and bad, not just what I like and don't like. I like the technical aspect of Idol that I get to see. The dancing show however, that is mindless entertainment. I can't dance. I know I can't. I'm so impressed by people who can. I have no idea if that spin was "technically right". All I think is ooooo sparkly. So I am off to watch and relax.

Chewie is 71 lbs we found out. A bit smaller than we thought but she's not done yet.

Hi Jaci:
I'm a friend of Carolynn Bucek and I found your blog through hers. I've read about your voice troubles and wanted to be able to help perhaps a little. The first thing is that my son doesn't speak (he's five) and we do sign language with him--signed english which if you're not familiar isn't like the actual language (American) but just a few signs that correspond with words so it's really quite easy to use. I've even resorted to using it when I've lost my voice and still have to lead choir practice. Having suggested this, I'm not really sure how you'd learn this! There's books out there for sure, but I'd be willing to pay you a visit and show you a few that might make communicating a little easier.
Secondly, I'm a voice teacher and if you're interested, I can get you the name of a speech pathologist (I think she's in Hamilton) who might be able to help you. I'm not sure if you'll need a referral or need to get a diagnosis from your ENT first, but I thought you might be interested in at least looking into it.
Carolynn has my email address if you'd like to chat some more about it all.
Take care,
LK

Yeah, kelly is now addicted to that dancing show. Kelly told me to tell you she likes the popper, I have no clue what that means, but she says you will, so that's all good.

Hope you figure out what's wrong with your voice. I went through something like that when I was in college, my throat sort of swelled and stayed that way for awhile - it turned out it was my wisdom teeth. Weird.
